The Bluebirds were defeated in Lancashire on Saturday afternoon.
Following an entertaining yet goalless opening 45 minutes, three second-half goals secured the points for the Tangerines.
Brian Barry-Murphy named four changes to the side that started in our last league fixture, with Ronan Kpakio, Calum Chambers, Joel Colwill and Cian Ashford stepping into the starting XI at Bloofield Road.
A lively start to proceedings began with plenty of action seen at both ends of the pitch, including an opening chance for the hosts in the first two minutes of play. Played through down the right and inside the area, CJ Hamilton struck the side netting from close range.
Nathan Trott was called into action minutes later, doing well to head clear under pressure just outside his area, after Calum Chambers’ headed pass to the ‘keeper went slightly short.
City rained chances on Blackpool’s defence for a good spell as the opening half progressed, with ‘keeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell being thoroughly tested by the Bluebirds.
Rubin Colwill spearheaded the majority of these chances, combining well with the blue shirts around him to fashion a number of opportunities that repeatedly forced the Blackpool shotstopper into action.
Setting up a bit chance for his brother Joel, Rubin drove down the left before crossing low, only for the powerful subsequent effort to be well saved by Peacock-Farrell. Moments later, the forward took on a shot himself, with the ‘keeper remaining unbeaten as he dived down to his left, pushing the ball around the post convincingly.
With neither side able to find the back of the net, a battling first half came to an end with City on the front foot.
Two minutes after the interval, the hosts pulled ahead. Striking on the counter, Ashley Fletcher ran into the area with the ball at his feet, shifting to shoot on his left foot before finishing into the top of the net at the near post.
The Bluebirds looked to bounce back quickly, with Alex Robertson's ranged shot forcing the 'keeper into yet another save five minutes after the opener.
Chambers very nearly levelled minutes afterwards with a gilt-edged chance, as he found himself free at the back post. Turning his headed effort towards goal, the skipper narrowly missed the target as the ball flew past the opposite post.
With City claiming a majority of possession, Blackpool were limited in their chances to striking on the counter. However, their clinical performance in front of goal awarded the hosts another two before the final whistle blew, with Fletcher scoring a brace and Tom Bloxham finding the hosts their third.
Yousef Salech found the back of the net from close range deep in injury time, but it was a consolation for the Bluebirds as the whistle blew for full time moments later.
