The Bluebirds recorded a point away at Burton Albion's Pirelli Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
A brace from Alex Robertson saw City go ahead in the second half but were forced to settle for a draw.
Two changes were made to the starting XI from our victory over Barnsley, with Ronan Kpakio and Callum Robinson coming in.
City forced the first chance of the afternoon as Chris Willock found space on the left and cut inside, finding Robinson on the edge of the area. The Bluebirds striker couldn’t quite make clean contact, with his effort flying wide. At the other end, the hosts took the lead after 11 minutes, as Jake Beesley found the net.
The Bluebirds reacted well to falling behind and had strong claims for a penalty on the half-hour mark. Perry Ng broke into the box and was felled in the area, with the referee adjudging the challenge to be a fair one.
Just before the break, skipper Calum Chambers connected well with a volley at goal, forcing goalkeeper Brad Collins to tip behind, who ensured the Brewers had the lead at the interval.
Brian Barry-Murphy’s side made a brilliant start to the second half as a swift move saw Robertson find space to sweep the ball into the bottom corner to equalise. City looked to build on drawing level and had a sustained spell of pressure. Substitute Joel Bagan found Willock in space who fired an effort at goal, which was tipped around the post by Collins.
From the resulting corner, the ball came back across to Robertson, who netted his second goal of the afternoon with 63 minutes on the clock, converting from close-range.
Despite City’s positive display in the second period, the hosts found an equaliser against the run of play with 78 minutes on the clock, as Kyran Lofthouse bundled the ball home, leading to the points being shared.
Next up for the Bluebirds is an away clash with Rotherham United on Saturday, February 7th, with a kick-off time of 3:01pm.
