Yousef Salech celebrates his goal against Birmingham City
The Bluebirds hosted Birmingham City on a wet afternoon at Cardiff City Stadium, where they made it three wins on the bounce at home.

Yousef Salech marked his return to action with a first half goal after having a penalty saved earlier on, as City maintained their unbeaten league record at CCS.

The hosts made four changes to the team that won a point against Middlesbrough last time out: Callum Scanlon started as a wide midfielder while Perry Ng returned from injury and Will Fish made his first start of the season. Yousef Salech also started after an injury to Krystian Bielik in the warm-up.

Perry Ng.

The first real chance of the fixture came when City won a penalty after 20 minutes. Perry Ng attempted to go up for a header after a corner but his shirt was pulled, stopping him from reaching the ball. However, the Blues shot-stopper James Beadle denied Yousef.

City’s number nine then opened the scoring after 32 minutes. Ollie Tanner swung in a first time ball towards the feet of Salech who used his body brilliantly to battle off the defender before finishing nicely on the turn.

The first half ended with City having a free kick in a dangerous area. Alex Robertson’s cross forced Beadle into action with a comfortable push away. There were few clear-cut chances for either side in the first 45 minutes but City held the all-important lead.

Ollie Tanner

The second half started with the Bluebirds having a quick break where Tanner found Salech who in turn found Cian Ashford, but his shot was kept out and the rebound was blocked.

City kept up their momentum and there was another chance for Salech. Joel Colwill won it back and released Yousef but his effort whistled just past the post.

Another break led to another chance for Cian. There was some great link up play between Jack Moylan and Ashford but a superb block stopped City doubling their advantage.

The Bluebirds had all of the momentum in the second half and a huge chance for the hosts went begging when Joel Bagan’s corner wasn't quite headed home by Salech.

Alex Robertson

With time creeping towards the 90th minute, the visitors had their biggest chance of the day. Despite Nathan Trott having little to do most of the afternoon, he pulled out a superb stop to keep City ahead.

The Blues then had a very late corner but the City defenders cleared just like they had all afternoon to see out a very well-earned three points at CCS.

City travel to Wolverhampton Wanderers next weekend looking to maintain their great recent form.
