Match Report | Cardiff City 1-0 Huddersfield Town

Match Reports
Cardiff City were victorious on Wednesday evening at CCS, beating Huddersfield Town 1-0.

The Bluebirds dug deep and took the points, with Famara Diedhiou's first goal in a Cardiff City shirt being the difference.

The visitors were presented with the first chance of the match in the opening 10 minutes, when Ben Wiles found space and time in the box to turn, however his effort flew into the Canton Stand.

On sixteen minutes Karlan Grant was the first to test the visitors' defence, forcing a smart low save from the Terriers' keeper Lee Nichols after unleashing a powerful drive.

An alert Ethan Horvath kept the scores level just seven minutes later, holding a Brodie Spencer header after he met a deep cross by Sorba Thomas.

City got their reward after a spell of dangerous attacks when Josh Bowler skilfully took down a long Ryan Wintle pass on the half-hour mark, before beating his man and putting the ball in the middle of the area for Diedhiou, who was on hand to slot home his first Bluebirds goal, and put City 1-0 up.

Ten minutes after the interval the visitors again earned themselves the first real chance of the half when a Thomas corner found its way to Jack Rudoni, who headed over from inside the six yard box.

Rubin Colwill got the City faithful on their feet on 81 minutes as he powerfully strode through the middle of the park before his low attempt was held by Nichols.

Huddersfield Town saw a golden opportunity to level the game go begging on 85 minutes when a Thomas cross was knocked down by Jaheim Headley to the feet of former City player Danny Ward, though he couldn't turn the ball in from point-blank range.

Substitute Manolis Siopis found himself with space on the edge of the box just three minutes later, however his effort was dragged wide.

As the game drew to a close, an ambitious Colwill free-kick almost sent the CCS into raptures as it narrowly dipped just over the crossbar, before a resolute defensive display saw the game out for City, earning all three points.
