City claimed all three points to end an action-packed week at CCS with a pulse-pounding win over Burnley.
BBM’s side came from being three goals down in the second half to win another match in the Welsh capital. Goals came from Ollie Tanner, Yousef Salech, Jack Moylan and finally Alex Robertson, who won it late on.
The Bluebirds made two changes from the midweek draw against West Ham United: Krystian Bielik returned to the centre of defence as Cian Ashford came into the side.
It was a quick start. Rubin Colwill had an early penalty appeal waved away, before some superb defending from Robertson stopped Burnley creating a great chance. Joel Bagan then tried his luck from range and saw his effort pushed away, and Robertson whipped a chance just over the bar.
The best chance of the opening ten minutes fell to Jack Moylan. Bagan’s ball bounced in front of him and his effort went just over.
The visitors opened the scoring against the run of play. A ball over the City defence left Andreas Hountondji one on one with Trott, and he finished neatly into the bottom corner.
City went two behind on what felt like Burnley’s second attack. This time it was Marcus Edwards, whose shot went through a number of bodies before finding the net.
The visitors almost had a third when Edwards was in one on one, but his effort went over. A minute later Trott was called into action to push another effort over the bar.
City found their way back into it when a Bagan corner wasn’t cleared and Rubin’s shot hit Tanner on its way into the net, a goal the Bluebirds deserved going into the break.
City thought they had another immediately after the restart, but Tanner’s initial effort was saved and Moylan’s follow-up was cleared off the line.
Once more the Clarets scored against the run of play. The ball couldn’t be cleared and Largie Ramazani’s shot found the top corner to put City two goals behind again.
City then found themselves three down, and it was incredibly unlucky for Alex Robertson, whose attempted clearance found the back of his own net.
Only minutes later, the introduction of Yousef Salech led straight to a City goal. A brave block by Ashford fell to the substitute, who made no mistake from close range.
With City searching for more, Burnley threatened on the counter and looked set to make it five, but Will Fish made a goal-saving block.
The big man proved trouble for the Burnley back line again, this time winning City a penalty. Salech went up for the header and was clearly pushed. Super Jack made no mistake from twelve yards, sending it into the top corner with 15 minutes to play.
Salech then completed the comeback with a superb header. Rubin’s ball in was perfect and the striker doubled his tally for the afternoon.
At the start of ten added minutes, Trott was called into action to keep the scores level. A great diving stop gave the visitors a corner, which he claimed.
Then Alex Robertson shaped to shoot on the edge of the penalty area and whipped it straight into the top right corner. The Bluebirds astonishingly had the lead with five minutes left of the ten added.
Once again Nathan Trott came to City’s rescue with an outstanding save with around three minutes from time. At the end of an intense final few moments at the CCS, City held out to claim all three points, having fougy stubbornluy to flip the game on its head.
