The Bluebirds and the Posh shared the points on Monday, April 6th.
The Bluebirds welcomed captain Calum Chambers and David Turnbull into the starting XI in two changes to the side that faced Blackpool before the international break. Centre forward Yousef Salech returned to the squad for the first time since January 24th following injury, taking up a spot on the subs bench.
Brian Barry-Murphy's side dominated possession and opportunities in the opening half but were still required to be on their toes on occasion when the hosts threatened.
Will Fish made two important blocks for City in the opening ten minutes, while Rubin Colwill and Joel Bagan threatened with chances at the other end.
Ryan Wintle's powerful strike after 22 minutes looked destined for the top corner but Alex Bass somehow tipped it over at the final second. Posh's number one made a number of impressive saves in the first half to keep the Bluebirds at bay.
City's own shot stopper, Nathan Trott, was called into action as the half reached its conclusion. Firstly, Trott denied forward Harry Leonard's header, before making a smart low stop after 39 minutes to keep out lightning winger Bolu Shofowoke.
While Cardiff City skipper Chambers received treatment in the first half, Peterborough United's own captain, Tom Lees, was withdrawn after 45 minutes after coming out worse in a 50/50 with Turnbull. The Scottish midfielder was booked for the challenge.
It was the away side that had the final chances in the opening 45 minutes with Cian Ashford shooting over from wide on the left, before Ng saw his deflected low effort kept out by Bass.
BBM made two changes at the interval with Chambers and Turnbull withdrawn in place of Ronan Kpakio and Alex Robertson. City's number 18 made an immediate impact, giving his side the advantage after 48 minutes. The hosts failed to deal properly with Ollie Tanner's dangerous cross, and Robertson struck first time once the ball dropped.
Any celebration for the Bluebirds though was short lived. With City having to change shape due to Chambers’ injury and our defenders finding their feet in new roles, Posh took full advantage. Striker Leonard made no mistake having broken in behind, slotting in.
It was an end-to-end second half following this setback. Brian looked to his substitutes bench for a match winner, with Yousef making his return to action after 69 minutes.
The first real opportunity after this though went the way of the home side with winger Kyrell Lisbie found in plenty of space and with only Trott to beat. The in-form Posh man though got his finish all wrong, failing to lob the Bluebirds goalkeeper.
City responded to this let-off and went inches away from taking the lead for a second time. Wintle with a well-struck low volley that bounced off the base of the post.
The final exchanges of the match saw both teams battling hard for a winning goal. Tanner wasn't far away from finding the net with five minutes remaining, but his low strike drifted wide from a tight angle. Wintle suffered a similar fate with his powerful shot in added time.
BBM's men made to settle for a point on the road. Next up for the Bluebirds is Bolton Wanderers back in South Wales this coming Saturday.
