City put in one of the performances of the season to hit Rotherham United for three despite playing with ten men for most of the game, on Saturday, February 7th.
Brian Barry-Murphy made three changes to the starting XI that drew at Burton Albion last time out with Joel Bagan, Joel Colwill and Gabriel Osho coming into the team. New signing Calum Scanlon was given a spot on the subs bench.
It was the Bluebirds who had the early of the chances with Omari Kellyman and Alex Robertson going close.
City's task of getting three points from South Yorkshire though was made especially hard when Ryan Wintle was sent off 21 minutes into the fixture. Wintle's attempted pass was cut out by Harry Gray. Despite Osho and Bagan ready to cover, the referee deemed Wintle's recovery challenge worthy of a last man red card.
You'd have expected the hosts to try and press their man advantage after this, but it was Barry-Murphy's men who continued in control, attempting to defy the odds. Full-back Perry Ng saw two long-range efforts kept out by Cameron Dawson.
City made their dominance on the ball count after 41 minutes, taking the lead. Ollie Tanner's low cross from the right found Kellyman on the edge of the box, and he struck into the bottom corner, via the inside of the post.
The Millers had their best chance of the half in added time as Gray finally found space, but his effort, one-on-one, was excellently kept out by Nathan Trott.
The hosts made two changes at the interval welcoming debutant Brandon Cover and Ar'Jany Martha and altering to a back four in an attempt to change their fortunes. Martha's first interaction with the ball though was being nutmegged by Ng, as City looked to score an important second goal. Robertson's effort after 47 minutes failed to test Dawson.
The home fans were expressing their frustration with their team, who were being bested by the Bluebirds time after time. The second goal came just before the hour mark, and it was City celebrating once again.
City's no.11 Tanner was provider for a second time, choosing to play in Chris Willock on the left ahead of other options and it proved to be the correct decision when Willock took his time before slotting home.
With the game drawing towards its conclusion, it was the Bluebirds who looked more likely to score again. Osho and substitute Cian Ashford saw attempts go off target, while the City support behind that goal prayed for further things to celebrate.
In ten minutes of added time, City got their third goal. Substitute Isaak Davies with a fantastic run and turn of pace and skill to beat his marker and fire low into the bottom of the net.
This away performance isn't likely to be forgotten any time soon. City's next two clashes are back in the Welsh capital, taking on Luton Town and AFC Wimbledon.
