The Bluebirds were given a chance to take the advantage from the spot after 19 minutes as Jack Simpson was caught in the box by Max Lowe. Sory Kaba continued his excellent goalscoring form by burying the penalty to give the Bluebirds a one-goal advantage.

City skipper Joe Ralls saw a dangerous effort deflected off target as Sabri Lamouchi's side quickly looked for a second.

Our hosts though rallied and found a leveller after 25 minutes. It was James McAtee with a fine run and finish to equalise for the home side.

The Bluebirds didn't let this setback unsettle them and immediately went about trying to once again find their advantage. Jaden Philogene went on a mazy run of his own and struck at goal, but Adam Davies made a fine stop.

It was an end-to-end first half with chances continuing at both ends. Ryan Allsop denied Iliman Ndiaye on a number of occasions as half edged towards its conclusion.

A big chance came the way of the Bluebirds in stoppage time, with Ralls breaking in behind the home defence, but he could only hit the ball at Davies at the tight angle. The first half ending level.

The hosts took the lead for the first time after 54 minutes, when Jack Robinson headed in at close range.

City fought for a way back into it. Jaden Philogene struck over with 66 minutes on the clock. Substitute Connor Wickham went within inches of scoring an equaliser six minutes later, but his half volley bounced clear off the frame of the goal.

Two goals in quick succession ended the game late on. Ndiaye beat McGuinness, rounded Allsop and slotted in before the Blades added a late fourth through Ciaran Clark at close range to secure all three points.
