Callum Robinson's wonder strike gave City a huge three points on the road on Tuesday night, defeating fellow high flyers Stevenage.
The Bluebirds were the better of the two teams in the first half, with all chances going the way of Brian Barry-Murphy’s men.
Right-back Perry Ng flashed an effort across the face of goal with 15 minutes on the clock, while Joel Colwill’s powerful strike from the edge of the box went wide ten minutes later.
The best chance of the opening half came after 30 minutes. Yousef Salech reached Joel Bagan’s cross, but, under pressure, he couldn’t hit the target with his headed effort.
The home side came into the game at the beginning of the second half, but City restricted them to one half chance and nearly found an opener of their own.
City's two Joels combined just before the hour mark for a good opportunity. Bagan's low cutback from the left was met by Colwill, who saw his strike go over off the crossbar.
Stevenage were showing why they were unbeaten in the home in the league this season before our visit with a superb defensive record, giving their all to quell City's attacking threats.
The Bluebirds kept the pressure up as the game moved towards its conclusion. City skipper Calum Chambers saw a powerful effort tipped away with 77 minutes on the clock.
Brian looked to his bench for that attacking breakthrough, with Callum Robinson, David Turnbull and Isaak Davies coming on for the final ten minutes.
It felt like the game would always take something special to decide it, and that's exactly what we got with five minutes remaining. The ever reliable Robinson plucked the ball out of the air with a deft touch, before letting it bounce and firing City into the lead from 20 yards.
The Bluebirds showed their own fight and defensive abilities to hold out against any late home pressure, defeating Stevenage and ending the host's unbeaten home record in the process.
