Matthew Turner pens new City deal

First Team
Matthew Turner has extended his stay with the Bluebirds, putting pen to paper on a new two-year contract, which will run until the summer of 2026.

The 22-year-old goalkeeper joined the Bluebirds in 2021 and has since been regularly involved in First Team squads, working alongside fellow shot-stoppers Ethan Horvath and Jak Alnwick in the 2023/24 campaign.

Turner has also gained experience in the Cymru Premier, having previously had loan spells at Haverfordwest County and Aberystwyth Town.

Speaking to Cardiff City TV, he said: “I’m delighted. It’s been on-going for a while, but I’m glad it’s all sorted now. It’s a proud moment for me and my family. Being from Wales, it’s a massive honour to play for Cardiff City.

"Working with Mario Galinović is brilliant. He teaches us a lot and for me as a young goalkeeper, I’ve got a lot to learn, so having him is ideal for me. I had around 20 appearances on the First Team bench last year. I’ve got two good goalkeepers ahead of me that I can learn from and we’ll see what happens. They’re both great and they’re open if I have any questions. They’re happy to help me and it’s great to learn from them."
