It’s with much sadness that Cardiff City Football Club has learned of the passing of Richard Shepherd, at the age of 81.
Richard began covering the Bluebirds in the early 1970s during his time as a journalist with BBC Radio Wales, before taking the reins as Editor of the Club’s Matchday Programme in 1985. He continued to work with the Club at Ninian Park and then Cardiff City Stadium until 2018, as Club Historian and Matchday Commentator.
Indeed, Richard’s authoritative and rich commentary voice, familiar to listeners of Real Radio in the early 2000s and then into the next decade with Cardiff City TV, will forever accompany some of our most cherished Bluebirds moments. A lasting and fitting tribute.
We offer our sincerest condolences to Richard’s widow, Brenda, his family and his many friends and colleagues in Welsh sport and further afield.
