Middlesbrough reaction | Brian Barry-Murphy

City boss Brian Barry Murphy at full-time in Middlesbrough

City boss Brian Barry-Murphy spoke with the press following the 2-2 draw with Middlesbrough on Saturday afternoon.

It was an exciting match at the Riverside, end-to-end with both teams fighting it out for the points.

"With the scoreline as it was at half-time we're disappointed not to win but our players gave absolutely everything for our supporters and for the Club," Brian began. "In the end we had to survive. With ten men against the calibre of our opponents in this stadium we knew it would be tough.

"We looked dangerous in the first half I thought. There were still parts of our game I felt we weren't quite at our best and we wanted more in the second half. The intention at half-time was to push on, but it wasn't possible.

"Middlesbrough came into the game and scored two brilliant goals themselves. You can feel sorry for yourself in that situation but we didn't.

"We showed resilience and toughness to get a great result."

Krystian Bielik was welcomed back into the heart of defence, partnering Gabriel Osho, with both players putting in outstanding shifts until Osho's second half red card.

The Bluebirds boss added: "Krystian has had a huge influence on the dressing room since he's come. He's shown real leadership in the way he played the game. It's testament to all the work he's put in.

"In the moment Osh was in the position we want him to be. We asked him to be aggressive when going for the ball. I didn't think it was a red card, but the referee made his decision and you have to move on quickly as a coach when these things occur to help the players.

"We have to pick up points. We've had lots of performances this season when we've earned the plaudits and pats on the back where we've played well but haven't won or drawn where we deserve it.

"It was very important to build on Tuesday night and pick up points where we deserve them."
