So far in pre-season, City Women have faced Cheltenham Town, Exeter City and Bristol Rovers in three valuable tests ahead of the UEFA Women's Champions League campaign.

Iain Darbyshire's side have tested themselves against English opposition to prepare for a fixture against the champions of the Republic of Ireland, Athlone Town.

Following the most recent pre-season clash, defender Nieve Jenkins gave an update on the progress of the squad.

“It’s really valuable to play against these kind of teams," she began. "I think our pre-season so far has given us good competition and it provides a great measure of where we’re at as a Club. We’re playing Tier Three and Tier Four clubs in England and competing really well.

“We’re finding our feet and building our rhythm ready for the Champions League. We’re gaining control in games and it’s just about taking our chances when we go forward."

Next up for the Bluebirds is an away clash against Plymouth Argyle on Sunday in the final game before the clash with Athlone Town on Wednesday, July 30th.

Nieve concluded: “Our preparation has been good. The information that the coaches have given us is clear and we just need to keep working hard. We’ve got one more game now on Sunday, then it’s full focus on our European campaign.

“There are loads of players in the squad that have got Champions League experience. That will definitely help us. We’ve got a good group this year that will give its absolute best, which will hopefully bring us the results that we want.

“I’m looking forward to it personally. We’re going to give it a really good go. All the coaches, the staff, the players and the fans are all behind each other, and we’re all work hard to get that result."
