Port Vale reaction | Brian Barry-Murphy

Brian Barry-Murphy
Brian Barry-Murphy spoke to the press following City’s 1-0 victory over Port Vale at Cardiff City Stadium on Wednesday night.

“It’s difficult to predict what level of performance we could reach based on the euphoria that we felt on Saturday.” Brian began. “I’m very pleased with the players that we managed to create a chance in the second half and play well enough to win.

“I was pleased with the attitude of the players. They worked incredibly hard and play with as much intensity as we could find, and I was confident that if we could reach a certain level of performance we would get the victory.”

After winning at Reading last weekend, City were promoted back to the Sky Bet Championship with three games remaining. Brian commented on the feeling securing promotion before the end of the season.

He added. “It’s a nice feeling to be promoted. There was a spell in the second half where we weren’t creating a lot of chances and I was thinking if we had to win this game, it would be a difficult feeling.

“It’s not always common to get promoted at this point in the season, so we need to really enjoy that feeling of what we’ve achieved, but when it comes to the games, we need a real focus on playing well and trying to win. That’s what our supporters are expecting and deserve.

“We’re very grateful for achieving promotion on Saturday and really savouring every moment that we spend together for the next two weeks and then we’ll take a break and push forward together.

“Our idea is always to move the club forward quickly and try to improve the squad and improve all aspects of the club. If that remains the theme, then it means it will be fun.”

Brian Barry-Murphy celebrates City’s win over Port Vale.

A third home clean sheet in a row for the Bluebirds after tonight's 1-0 victory. Brian was quick to praise Dylan Lawlor for his hard work and professionalism over the last few days.

Brian concluded: “On Dylan, I like what I’ve seen from him since Saturday’s win. He trained really well yesterday. I’m not trying to be a bore, and we have to enjoy every part of it, but to see a player like him so focused on his training and almost straight back into it is a sign of how good a player he’s going to be.

“He has a leader’s mentality and it’s very good to see. I thought he played very well tonight and a player who’s improving all the time.”
