City Women compete for the first piece of silverware available this season as they face Wrexham AFC in the Genero Adran Trophy final this weekend.
The fixture will take place at Bangor City Stadium on Sunday, February 22nd with a kick-off time of 5pm.
PRE-MATCH | IAIN DARBYSHIRE
“We’re really excited for it” Iain began. “The squad have a real buzz about them ahead of the game which is fantastic. You can see how much the staff and players are aligned in our objectives, and we’re hopeful to have a successful game this weekend.
“Wrexham are a great side. They’ve added a lot of quality into their squad over the past 12 months and it makes for great games between us. The two games this season have been two of the most enjoyable since I’ve been at this Club so I’m really looking forward to Sunday and we’re hoping we can bring that bit of extra quality on the day.
“I think that the experience that this team have will help the players settle into the game, but equally we know Wrexham pose a lot of quality and threat to us and they will be up for it. We need to make sure we go there, keep our standards and perform on the day.
“We’re in great form and we’ve been consistent throughout the season. We’ve had to go through some difficult periods in difficult matches, but I think we’re starting to see the benefits of training and the group are really working well together both on and off the ball, which is massive if you want to be successful."
PRE-MATCH | LILY BILLINGHAM
“We’re really excited for the game on Sunday. Lily began. “Me personally, I haven’t played in an Adran Trophy Final and I came back to this Club to win silverware so I’m very excited and know that the whole squad is really up for it.
“We all expect a different challenge every time we play Wrexham. It’s always a different game and we’ve had some very close results against them this season so we are expecting a big challenge. We have a lot of experience in this team throughout the squad. I feel like everyone has a lot of balanced experience of big games and the squad has a winning mentality.
The last time City faced Wrexham in a Final came in last season’s Bute Energy Welsh Cup, where Lily opened the scoring in a 3-1 victory.
“It’s probably my favourite football memory playing at Cardiff City so far. Lily continued. “It was a great day and a bonus to get that goal at the beginning of the game. But we’re focused on this one coming up on the weekend.
"The fans are massive in these big games. Knowing they will have made the effort to come up to Bangor is huge and helps us massively in these games.”
