OPPOSITION FOCUS | THE NEW SAINTS

The New Saints finished Phase One in fourth position, securing their place in the Championship Conference for Phase Two with a record of seven wins, two draws and five defeats.

City suffered their only defeat of the campaign to date on the opening day of the season at the hands of the Saints, with Chantelle Teare’s solitary goal enough for a 1-0 win.

Since then, the two sides have faced off twice more, playing out a thrilling 3-3 draw in Leckwith which saw Lily Billingham and Laura Curnock scoring late goals to salvage a point.

More recently, City defeated TNS 3-0 in the Semi-Finals of the Adran Trophy. Goals from Mackenzie Olden and a brace from Madison Lloyd ensured City’s place in the final.

Iain Darbyshire
PRE-MATCH | IAIN DARBYSHIRE

“Every time we’ve played TNS this year, it's been a difficult game.” Iain began. “We know we have to perform to our best and make sure that we're on it on the day.

“We know they're a good side and we don't want to lose in this competition. We want to try and win everything, so it'll be the players who train and perform the best through the week will be the ones that start on Sunday. Everyone's reported well physically from last Sunday’s game, I don't think we've got any injury concerns ahead of this weekend. For us now, it’s about getting good sessions in training this week and then making sure that we're on it from the first whistle on Sunday.

“This is a tournament we've been very successful in, winning it four years in a row. We pride ourselves in retaining this trophy and it's the biggest event of the year, in terms of the fans and we want to be involved in that. We know that we've got a tough challenge this weekend, but we'll give it all we can to make sure we retain the trophy.

“It's all about maintaining the standards we’ve set.” Iain continued. “We know what it's like at this point in the season, we'll play TNS a few more times before the end of the season. Therefore, we need to be on it and we need to make sure that we assert ourselves in the game and if we do that, we've got a good chance of winning and getting through to the next round.”
