City Women are in action this weekend in the Bute Energy Welsh Cup as they face Wrexham in the Semi-Finals of the competition.
The fixture will take place at Park Avenue on Sunday, 8th March, with a kick-off time of 4:30pm.
PRE-MATCH | IAIN DARBYSHIRE
“We're looking forward to the challenge," Iain began. “We've spoken about this game being an opportunity to respond as we were far from our best and didn’t perform to the levels we’re capable last time, but full credit to Wrexham as they deserved to win last weekend. It’s important to take it game by game and trying to put things right and make sure we perform this time.
“The aim is to win, that always remains the same. The opportunity to win two trophies is still there. It's going to take a very good performance for us to beat Wrexham, but it is doable. We are aware of the areas we can hurt them, it’s just about making sure that we're together, focused, and the team can navigate the difficult moments better than what we did last weekend and if we do that, we can have a positive result.
“We had a chat as a group and we know where we are and what needs to be done, and emphasised that we can’t lose sight of how good we have been. Saturday's loss was our first in the league since the first day of the season, so we've gone on a long unbeaten run.
“We played at Park Avenue in the Semi-Final last season, which is a good marker for us as we didn't play particularly well that day, but we found a way to win. I think we dealt with not having the ball a bit more, we dealt with difficult moments better, and we can use that as a reference point for us on Sunday.”
PRE-MATCH | HANNAH POWER
“We're really looking forward to the challenge,” Hannah began. “You want to play against the best teams every week, so it's another opportunity to challenge ourselves and play against some of the best players in Wales.
"This week has been used as a bit of a reset. We've had two results against Wrexham go against us, so it's been about grouping together this week and we're looking forward to having the opportunity to play them again and try make up for the mistakes that were made in the past two games. Everybody's really excited and ready for the game.
“Everybody's been working really hard and we've had a good intensity in training. We’ve regrouped and looked at things we need to improve on and things that we need to be better at. Sometimes, you learn from the losses more than the wins and that's definitely what we've been aiming to do this week.”
