We caught up with midfielder Eli King ahead of Tuesday’s Carabao Cup tie against Cheltenham Town.
“It’s been a very positive start to the season.” Eli began. “And because of how new everything is, it’s so important to use every game as an opportunity to continue to implement everything the manager has asked us to do. Every game is a chance to get better so it’s another big game on Tuesday against Cheltenham Town and it’s important too for us to keep the run going as well.”

After spending last season on loan at Stevenage, making 33 appearances in all competitions, Eli is eager to impress and cement his place in City’s midfield now.
“It’s obviously hard not playing as much as you’d like but I’m working as hard as I can at the minute.” Eli added. “I’m training as much as possible, trying to develop as much as possible and trying to do all the things that are asked of me, but the boys are playing well and I’m enjoying watching the team at the same time. Tuesday is an opportunity for me and for everyone else to stamp their mark and show the manager why we should be playing. I think my attributes and my strengths definitely suit the way we are trying to play. It’s up to me to show that to the manager, show the staff and myself that I am capable of fitting in.
“It’s still all quite new to us. We obviously had pre-season, but it doesn’t match the intensity of when the season begins, so as far as playing the intensity as the league demands of us, we’re still embedding into the style of play and trying to develop as much as possible.”

And after a flying start to the season for the Bluebirds, sitting on top of the League One table and winning four games in a row, Eli believes the feel-good factor is translating into the dressing room.
“As players, we’re all looking forward to coming into work every day, which is such a big thing in football.
"I’d like to think that even if the game against Luton hadn’t gone our way results wise, we still would have come in Monday morning with the same energy and positivity, so things are feeling very good at the club at the minute.”
