Pre-Match Press - Bradford City | Brian Barry-Murphy

Brian Barry-Murphy
Brian Barry-Murphy spoke to the press to preview our top-of-the-table clash with Bradford City on Saturday afternoon.

Saturday’s opponents are second in the Sky Bet League One table, level on 17 points with City.

“They’re a team that have had success," Brian began. "When teams have been promoted, they have that feeling of momentum and have been together for a successful period.

“We’re slightly different in that we haven’t been together for a long time. We’re in the very early stages of trying to do what we want to, so it will be a great test for us.

“Coming back to Cardiff City Stadium in front of a huge crowd will be brilliant for us. The experience that we’ve had at home has been really positive.

"In every single game, the players have played very aggressively and have tried to be on the front foot as much as possible.

“That being said, we’re under no illusions about how difficult that will be on Saturday against a team that have strong qualities and a clear identity in the way they play the game.”

The Bluebirds head into the contest on the back of a 1-1 draw at Stockport County last week, as well as a 1-0 victory over Exeter City in the Vertu Trophy in midweek.

Troy Perrett made his First Team debut against the Grecians, whilst there were first City appearances for Gabriel Osho and Omari Kellyman. Brian confirmed that the latter’s substitution was pre-planned.

Brian continued:Kevin Gibbins leads the physical aspects here. He’s very good and the reason I brought him to the Club was because of his expertise in these areas.

“He was adamant that it was the best for Omari to start the game and to come off after around 30 minutes. Off the back of where he has been and what he has done, we felt that was right. I’m very pleased that he's come out of it well.

“It was a good game for him. He’s been very keen to experience what it will be like in League One. He’s shown glimpses of what he can do, but he also had a taste of the physical nature of how teams will play against him, which will be very beneficial going forward.

“I’ve seen Troy since the start of pre-season. He’s done very well in training with us and the U21 games that I’ve seen.

"I didn’t think it was necessary for Rubin and Joel to play based on what they’ve been through over the last few weeks, so I gave an opportunity to Troy.

"I think with all the young players, they have to earn that and really feel that they’re there on merit. Troy earned it based on how well he has trained with us."

Cardiff City FC Community Foundation

Saturday's game marks our annual fixture dedicated to highlighting the fantastic work of Cardiff City FC's Community Foundation.

“One of the big things that I saw at my previous clubs was that once the players become aware of how important it is to the Club, they make themselves available.

"A big part of what we’re trying to do this season is making sure the players spend time in the community and that the demands on them from the Club are high.

"From my experience, sometimes in football, we become pre-occupied by training and games, which become the most important part of our lives, when it’s not the case.

“Anything that brings it [the Foundation’s work] into people’s attention or into the forefront of our minds is beneficial. It just reaffirms the importance of it.

"Like in modern day life, the tendency is to put things on the backburner and think I’ll not do it today, I’ll do it tomorrow or the week after, but these things have to be done now because they’re more important than anything we do on the pitch."
