Pre-Match Press - Burton Albion | Cian Ashford

Cian Ashford
Cian Ashford spoke to the press to preview our Sky Bet League One clash with Burton Albion.

The Bluebirds head into the fixture following an impressive 4-0 victory over Barnsley in midweek.

“We’re expecting another tough game," Cian began. "When they came here, they were tough to break down and it wasn’t a good result for us. We’re hoping that we can go and put that right.

“They made it difficult for us the last time we played them but the most important thing for us is to stay patient.

"We don’t want to be rushing and fall into playing how they want us to. If we can stay patient, we know the goal will come because we’ve been scoring all season."

Cian has made 32 appearances in all competitions so far this season, featuring regularly under Brian Barry-Murphy, who has played a big part in the winger's development.

He continued: “Brian’s come in and has got all the boys playing a good style of football. It’s just really enjoyable to be a part of.

“He is really easy to communicate with. When he wants something done, he gets it across well and it’s effective what he says so when you take it in and start to implement it to your game, you can see it working. It’s been good to see my game improve.

“He speaks about the back post, making little movements and to be eager to run in behind and not be a one-way player that wants the ball to feet.

“I’m quite a versatile player. I can play as a 10 or on the wing. I’m happy to play either and like to play both."

Cian is one of a series of City Academy products who have thrived at First Team level this season. The winger expressed his gratitude for regular opportunities to impress.

“Brian plays so many of the Academy boys and it’s not only good for me but good for the young players coming through to look up to all of us who are getting so many minutes and starting games. We’re featuring regularly and it’s been enjoyable.

“It’s good to have healthy competition in the squad. There’s no complacency. That’s what Brian drives into us, high standards for everyone."
