Having scored in our midweek Carabao Cup Quarter Final, David Turnbull spoke to the press on Thursday ahead of the weekend trip to Lincoln City.
“As the manager said before the game, we didn’t want to sit back and let Chelsea run all over us." David reflected. “I think that we performed well in the way that he wanted us to, which was great. We played the way we have been all season, and showed it against the bigger teams. It was brilliant.
“It’s been fantastic this year from the start. Since the manager came in he’s given us a style of football and we have to stick to that. It’s fun as well, and that’s always good for the lads. With all the young boys coming through, he’s helping them, pushing them on and improving their game as well as us, so that’s really good to see."
The midfielder has been heavily involved for the Bluebirds this term, making 17 League One appearances, with eight starts and three assists, plus a well-taken Cup goal on Tuesday.
He said: “It’s great for myself. Last year I had my injury which came at an annoying time. It’s never a good time to get one, but it’s good to get back. I had a little niggle earlier in the season just as I felt I was getting into my flow again, so it’s good to be injury free at the moment and hopefully it continues.
“The Championship is really physical, but I’d say that League One is a lot more man-to-man. It’s been tough but enjoyable, because we’re getting more results this year and able to play the way we can.
“This season I’ve felt a lot more comfortable and getting to where I want to be, and Brian [Barry-Murphy] has helped a lot. I used to score more goals and that’s what he’s tried to get back in my game, scoring goals, and Tuesday was a good starting point. Hopefully I can get a few more before the end of the season."
City now turn their attention to our run of festive fixtures, with four upcoming games in fifteen days, and the Scot was full of confidence ahead of our visit to the LNER Stadium this weekend.
"I think we’re on a good run now the past four or five wins in a row, so I think in this block of games there are a lot of games and definitely we’re playing teams at the top, we need to beat them. I think it’s an important period just to try to rack up the wins, get them under the belt and try to push our way through now.
"There are a lot of bodies in midfield. The boys have been brilliant and that’s what you’re after and what everybody wants, a bit of competition for places. You know you need to be there everyday in training, trying to take your chance and just stay in the team as much as you can, but then when you rotate you know you’re being replaced by a good player. That’s always good for a team that’s pushing up the table."
