Pre-Match Press - Mansfield Town | Brian Barry-Murphy

Brian Barry-Murphy
Brian Barry-Murphy spoke to the press ahead of our Sky Bet League One clash with Mansfield Town.

The Bluebirds return to Cardiff City Stadium for our first home league fixture since October 18th.

“The table is very tight,” Brian began. “Teams will look at this period of the season with so many fixtures as an opportunity to kick on.

"That is definitely our intention. We have won our last two home games in the league and on Saturday against a team managed by Nigel [Clough], who is an experienced manager, and they’re an experienced squad, so it will be a tough test for us.

“Our intention is to play well and to try and make it three home league wins in a row. It’s been a long time since we’ve been here.”

City head into the contest after a 3-1 victory away at Northampton Town last time out, and currently sit second in the Sky Bet League One table.

Brian continued: “I think the players are improving all the time. What you may see throughout the season are inconsistencies based on how new we are in terms of forming.

“As long as the players are focused on improving individually, then the collective performances will become more consistent. That is always the idea.

“I’m very confident that if we maintain that upward curve with our improvement, the results will be inevitable.

“We won’t be playing defensively, no matter what we do. Our intention is to be as attack-minded as possible in our home stadium, as it has been in all the games. We will have the most aggressive mindset possible.”

Ahead of the weekend, Brian concluded with an injury update on members of his squad.

Rubin Colwill’s timescale will be 10-12 weeks. There is a discussion over the next 24 hours over whether he will have surgery or not.

“When an injury of that nature occurs, it’s disappointing for Rubin and for his teammates. Once you get over the first couple of days, in our sport, you quickly start to look at the recovery that is involved and start to see the opportunity that it provides to the rest of the squad.

“On Friday, Dylan Lawlor trained with us but wasn’t able to complete the session. This week has been much better. If today and tomorrow goes as well as it has done so far this week, he will definitely be available for selection.

Joel Colwill is a big doubt. He had a gash on his knee at Northampton, which we managed to make sure it didn’t get infected. He hasn’t trained this week and won’t train this week. At best, he’s 50/50 for Saturday. Apart from that, I don’t think there are any other injury issues.”
