Ahead of Saturday’s fixture against Peterborough United, Perry Ng spoke to the press at CCS.
With City embarking on their Emirates FA Cup campaign with a First Round tie against the Posh on Saturday, Perry shared his expectations from a trip to Cambridgeshire.
“It’s been a bit of a crazy schedule so far,” Perry began. “But it’s another chance to get a good cup run going and carry the momentum on into that and into the league.
“It’ll be a tough game on Saturday, I think they’ve just got a new gaffer, so they’ll be looking to bounce back, but we’ll be going there looking to stamp our authority on the game and hopefully go through.
“I think that we’ve progressed a lot, but we’ve still got a long way to go. I’m sure that Brian [Barry-Murphy] will say the same thing. I think every defeat we’ve had so far we’ve really learned from, and we’ll only get better.”
Reflecting on the season so far, the City right-back discussed the way that the Bluebirds approach fixtures amidst a busy period of away matches.
“We’re a young, inexperienced squad,” he continued. “But if we keep working hard every day and listening to the staff and the Gaffer, I’m sure we’ll become a top team.
“This style of play that we’re playing does take a few months to get to the peak of your fitness, and the Gaffer mentioned that on Tuesday night.
“We’ve still got a long way to go, and I think with the younger lads and us, we’ve played a completely different style for the last five years, so it is going to take time to get used to, and we’ll see the benefits of that later on in the season."
Praising his teammates as well as the style of play that the Bluebirds have enjoyed this season, Ng continued:
“People probably think that because I’m not playing as much now that I’m disappointed, but this is probably the happiest I’ve been with the Club.
“I can see a real project with Brian and the younger lads, and it’s probably the most talented squad I’ve seen. I love the style of football that we’re playing, and feel like if we all stick together we can go a long way.
“We know now going into games exactly how we’re going to press from the front, what we’re going to do on the ball or if we concede.
“Going into games like that is a massive help, and gives us a lot of confidence on the pitch. I think it actually suits us playing teams in higher divisions; the way we press from the front is unbelievable and I’d hate to play against our front three!
He concluded: “It gives us a massive boost going into games now.”
