Brian Barry-Murphy spoke to the press to preview our Sky Bet League One fixture against Plymouth Argyle on Saturday.
The Bluebirds head into the fixture sitting at the top of the table, having picked up 13 points from the first five fixtures.
Despite currently placing 19th in the League One standings, the Pilgrims arrive in the Welsh capital providing a stern test.
“For the last 24 hours, we’ve been studying them pretty intensely," Brian began. "Once the game finished on Tuesday, all of our focus has shifted to that.
“They look as if they have clear qualities and are going to be an exceptionally difficult test for us. Our focus is now on preparing.
“This afternoon, we’re going to train, then tomorrow, for what we anticipate is going to be a cracker of a game. They look a really talented team with good individual players and look dangerous.
“They play probably a bit different to what we have faced. We have faced a lot of teams who have played a back five, unless they change and Tom [Cleverley] does something different.
“We’ve seen them play in a back four, so it will be a really good test for us and one we’re very excited about.”
City head into the fixture on the back of securing a place in the next round of the Carabao Cup with a 3-0 victory over Cheltenham Town on Tuesday evening.
The Bluebirds have been drawn to face Burnley at Turf Moor in Round Three.
“I’m really excited to get the opportunity to go to a Premier League club and test ourselves. It’s the first time that we’ll go away in this competition this season, so it will be a test for us, but we’re looking forward to it.
“We want to have a lot of different experiences this season and test ourselves at all times. Playing a team of that calibre at this stage of the competition gives us the chance to be competitive. We feel that we can do that in the game and give ourselves a chance to progress.
“I see cup games as every bit as important as every other game we play. When you get into the realms of differentiating what is important and what isn’t, it becomes very confusing for players and staff alike.
“If you have the idea that the next game is always the most important, for the players it then becomes clear what we value every day. It creates a competitive environment that we want here.”

The City head coach concluded by giving an update on his squad ahead of this Saturday’s clash.
“Nathan Trott had some tightness in his hamstring and he’s 50/50 for Saturday. Jak Alnwick was ill for Tuesday night’s game, but he’ll train today and tomorrow, so should be available for Saturday.
“Alex Robertson has had some hamstring pain, so he won’t be available. David Turnbull had a scan on his groin, which means he won’t be able to play on Saturday, but the damage is minimal, he’ll be back within ten days.”
