Pre-Match Press - Wolverhampton Wanderers | Brian Barry-Murphy

Brian Barry-Murphy
Brian Barry-Murphy spoke to the press ahead of City’s visit to Wolverhampton Wanderers this Halloween weekend.

The Bluebirds will be looking to continue their fine form, while Wolves will be looking to try and find their way into the automatic promotion places.

“Obviously, their squad depth and size is reflective of a team that has been in the Premier League last season.” Brian began. “We know how good they are. We prepared very intensely, and with all of our focus on Saturday's game, so we are ready.

“It's the same approach every week for all games, we follow the same process all the time. The early part of the week is all about the conditioning and the way we want to be physically. And then on Thursday and Friday, we specifically focus on the opponent we're going to face and how we want to implement our game plan on them.”

City are still searching for their first away victory of the season, and the trip to the West Midlands is their next opportunity to pick up three points on the road.

Brian continued: “It's the next thing we want to do, obviously, because we haven't done it yet. But we were pretty close at Middlesbrough. I felt as if we could have won there, but in the end had to settle for a draw. We played well in certain games, but we can't deny the fact that our home form has been better than our away form. We have to accept that and try and improve it on Saturday.

“I think there are clear signs for our players that we're improving as the season progresses. It's a difficult time for us in terms of who's available and who's not. We have been stretched, we can't deny that, and because of the size of our squad, when we have multiple injuries in a specific area, like we have in central defence over what has been pretty much the whole season, it is difficult for us. But, the players who've had to go into those roles and adapt have shown the type of characteristics that we want in the team in this Club. I couldn't be happier with the players who are playing and understand how much of a challenge it is, but it's one that we're enjoying and relish.”

Rubin Colwill

Following a spell on the sidelines, Rubin Colwill has returned to full training this week.

“A player of his calibre for us is huge. He's a very important player for us and just gives us so much flexibility in how we can approach games with having him back fully fit. We haven't rushed him, so he's in a really good place and hopefully he will remain that way for the rest of the season.

“I think you just have to be patient because he's had a very serious ankle surgery last season, which he made a remarkably quick recovery from. This season has been less straightforward for him. I know he’s shown signs that he's in a really good place physically, and if we're patient with him and build him up in the way that we will, then I'm sure he'll be a huge player for us moving forward.”
