Cork City are currently top of the League of Ireland First Division, with our friendly taking place during their summer break.
Our fixture will take place alongside the First Team’s one-week training camp in Cork, following City’s pre-season opener against FC Midtjylland at Cardiff City Stadium on July 11th.
As three-time Irish Premier Division winners, Cork City is a club with special significance for Bluebirds boss Brian Barry-Murphy, who began his playing career in his native city before making the move to the EFL.
With family history deeply rooted in the area, Brian’s father, Jimmy Barry-Murphy, is a GAA Hall of Fame-inductee who represented Cork-based club St Finbarr’s and Cork County throughout an esteemed career in both hurling and Gaelic football, also playing for Cork’s province Munster in both sports.
Winning titles for his club, county and province as a player and renowned as a Gaelic games legend, Jimmy saw further success when stepping into management for his home county, claiming both national and provincial honours across two spells.
