Reading reaction | Calum Chambers

Calum Chambers
Bluebirds captain Calum Chambers spoke to Cardiff City TV after Saturday's 2-1 win over Reading.

City had to fight back from a goal down in the first half, but courtesy of strikes from Omari Kellyman and Yousef Salech, Brian Barry-Murphy’s side took all three points.

“It was a tough game in the end,” Calum began. “It was a test that I think we stood up to, and at the end of the day it’s a great three points.

“It would obviously be nicer to have a more comfortable win, it’s always nice to have that, but we knew today wasn’t going to be that easy. Games don’t always go the way that you want them to go, but to come out of it with three points shows the character we have and what we’re trying to achieve.

“We had to take our chances today, and we did just that by scoring two good goals. It would have been nice to kill the game off a little earlier and make those last 10-15 minutes a little easier for us. At the end of the day, you learn from these games. Sometimes you learn more from games like this than games you just cruise through. We will take a lot from it; a lot of positives, things to learn, and we will keep going.”

It was another game where plenty of City’s young stars shone, with Chambers pleased by how well they’ve been progressing.

“It is a very young squad, but the boys are standing up to it every week and putting in great performances,” Calum continued. “The energy and the enthusiasm they have, to learn the style of play that Brian wants us to play, has been brilliant. So, credit to all of them and the way they're progressing.

Cardiff City celebrate

And with three points secured in South Wales, Calum was quick to set his sights on our next clash, a tough trip to Bolton Wanderers next weekend.

“We’re happy but we know what our goals are for this year,” Calum concluded. “We’re happy with where we are but we’re not resting on our laurels.

"We know what we want from this season and it’s down to us to keep our heads down and focus on what we want. It’s a matter of getting back on the training ground and work hard ahead of the next one.”
