Rubin Colwill’s dramatic, last-gasp free-kick in the all-Welsh clash against Wrexham has been revealed as the inaugural winner of the Goal Hero of the Month award.
The all-new monthly award celebrates the most memorable and impactful goals from across the Championship, League One and League Two, and spotlights the goals with the biggest stories behind them for the respective clubs, players and supporters involved.
Created by Compare the Market in partnership with the EFL, August’s inaugural award has recognised Rubin’s last-minute free-kick which earned a hard-earned point in the all-Welsh fixture.
Aleksandr, Compare the Market’s famous meerkat, handed Rubin the trophy for August’s award at our Vale Resort training ground earlier this week.
Goalscorer and winner of August’s Goal Hero of the Month, Rubin Colwill, said: “It's great to win this award. At the time it was a really special moment and to get recognition for that is really nice. It was an unbelievable feeling, a great moment for all the fans in the stadium, for the boys and for the team. It was one of those things that you just wait for in your career.”

Each month, a shortlist of goals will be whittled down to one award winner chosen by a specialist judging panel featuring EFL legend Earnshaw, formerly of City, West Bromwich Albion and Nottingham Forest.
This new initiative is just one component of a landmark new partnership that sees Compare the Market join up with the EFL to celebrate and reward fans from clubs and communities across the 72. Over the duration of the season, fans will have the chance to win a range of rewards via the, Compare the Market app with the current prize draw giving supporters the chance to win EFL home match tickets.
