Cardiff City vice-captain Rubin Colwill has been named the Carabao Cup Player of the Round for round four following his starring role in the win over Wrexham.
Colwill inspired the Bluebirds to a 2-1 win away at the Racecourse to pick up the award.
Rubin is the second Colwill to claim the Player of the Round award this season after younger brother Joel won it in the last round for his display against Burnley.
The attacking midfielder is pleased to be able to have an award for himself now and believes the victory over Phil Parkinson’s side will stick with him for a long time.
“It’s nice to win the award,” Rubin began. “It was good to see Joel pick up the award in the last round but it’s good to be able to get one of my own!
“That night at the Racecourse is a memory that’s going to stick with me for the rest of my life. It was a special night and a special game, one that I really enjoyed.”
The cup competitions have allowed City manager Brian Barry-Murphy to use plenty of players, and Colwill says that he’s proud of everyone involved with the club currently.
Rubin continued: “The cups are certainly important for squad rotation. The whole squad is doing so well at the minute and we’re treating every game as the most important one. The manager utilises the squad well and everyone is benefitting.”
“When we all came back for pre-season everyone could see and sense that there was a new energy around the place, a new vibe with the manager and his staff coming in. I’ve been immensely proud with how everyone has stepped up to the plate and putting in really good performances.”
Injury will unfortunately rule Colwill out of Tuesday night’s clash against Premier League side Chelsea, but nonetheless, he is excited to see a packed Cardiff City Stadium cheer on the Bluebirds.
“Everyone is really looking forward to the game against Chelsea,” Rubin ended. “Obviously, I’m gutted not to be involved but I can’t wait to come down and see a full stadium.
"It's going to be a special night that all the boys are looking forward to.”
