Rubin post-Swindon Town | A real team effort

Rubin Colwill
Rubin Colwill spoke to Cardiff City TV following City’s 2-1 win against Swindon Town.

“They worked us hard, put a real shift in and didn’t make it easy for us at all.” Rubin began. "But, we came through with the win in the end. There were lots of good moments in the game and still lots for us to improve on.

“I think we had a lot of things to take away from the game against Port Vale. There's lots to learn, but we tried to put those things right tonight, the way we moved the ball, switching it and getting them moving, trying to create space so we can be better when we’re trying to attack. So, there’s lots to work on, lots to try and adjust and I thought we did that pretty well tonight.

“We come in every day, we learn and work hard. All you want as a footballer is to come in and see there’s a plan of what to do and what we’re working towards, and then it’s up to you to put the work in and see if you can achieve that.”

“As a team, the way we play is that everybody is as important as each other.” Rubin added. “Us forward players rely on the boys at the back and the midfielders to get the ball to us as quickly and efficiently as we can, so we can put the ball in the net and create chances. On the flip side of that, we’ve got to do the work, to press and try to win the ball back and then it’s up to us to keep the ball. It’s a real team effort and we’ve come a long way in that since pre-season.

“The confidence the manager gives you from his gameplans and what he demands of us in training rubs off on us. It’s definitely helped me, when there’s a manager here who knows what he wants to do and knows how to teach us is massive for all of us.

“There’s always going to be a change of style, a change of systems and I think it’s been really good so far. It was important for us to start with a really good game and performance against Peterborough, we did really well to stay in the game and not lose against Port Vale, and then tonight, another good win. To show the changing of how we’re playing while still getting results is massive. I think it gives everybody confidence that what we’re doing is right and we’re fully confident that it’s going to get better and keep improving.”

Rubin also reflected on starting alongside his brother Joel for the first time in the First Team in our opening day match with Peterborough United.

“After Peterborough, I don’t think we realised how special it is, but we’ll look back very fondly on it. You couldn’t write it, us playing together and starting our first game, so it’s really special; we’re really proud of each other and our immediate family too are very proud.”
