Brian Barry-Murphy spoke to the press after the Bluebirds were held to a two all draw at home to Sheffield United.
“We’re disappointed not to win,” Brian began. “It felt as if maybe we should have but we understand Sheffield United have a very strong team in this division so today we have to accept the draw.
“The game plan for us was very specific. We knew the strengths of Sheffield United and we knew we had to try and be effective in the game. When you lose two quick goals, it’s easy to go away from the game plan but the players showed a lot of courage and a really strong mentality to still play really brave football, really committed football and create good chances. Which ultimately gave us the second goal and created chances in the second half to win the game but we just didn’t take them.”
The Bluebirds were backed by a passionate CCS after a promising start to the season.
Brian added: “The stadium is incredible. The following we’ve had this season because we’ve lost early goals against Wrexham which wasn’t planned and two goals today wasn’t planned and it would be easy for the supporters and ourselves to be put off track. But together we stayed very much as one and the second half had a good feeling attacking the Canton but it just wasn’t to be.”
Krystian Bielik signed for City this week and went straight into the heart of the Bluebirds defence.
“I thought he had a great debut, really good through the game.” Brian continued. “He’s not played a lot, so probably would have been feeling the pace of the game I think throughout the first half, but in the second half I thought he showed his real quality and calmness and composure. I was slightly concerned when he went down but I think it was just pretty bad cramp.”
Jack Moylan and Joel Bagan played together again on the left flank and impressed, while Cian Ashford played in a more central role.
BBM concluded: “I think Jack Moylan had a really effective game. My message to him before the game was to be patient with himself because you know he gets the ball. He’s a very attack minded player and wants to do things that are unpredictable.
"Joel Bagan supported him really well. I’m very happy with Joel.
“We’ve obviously seen how effective Cian is in wide areas and vice versa for Jack but I think the beauty of having both players is that they can be equally as effective in both depending on what we think is best for the individual game.”
