Chris Willock spoke to the press following City’s 2-1 home win against Stevenage in Sky Bet League One.
“I thought we deserved it.” Chris began. “I think that we dominated the game for the larger parts, but I thought the subs made a big impact on the game, when Omari [Kellyman] and Ronan [Kpakio] came on, it changed the game.
“It’s a real togetherness we are building. Everyone in the squad can make the impact which you could see today. Credit to Stevenage, I thought that they had done well. They sat behind the ball for large parts of the game and it’s always hard to break these sorts of teams down, so I’m pleased with how we played.”
The Bluebirds have now won seven consecutive home league fixtures, and when asked what accredits this, Chris added: "We've got a lot of top players, and everyone wants to play. There's a lot of competition which is good. We’ve got a lot of young players that need monitoring and everyone's progressing well.
"And I think it starts from training. I think we train really hard so whenever you're called upon, you’re ready. Like [Callum] Robbo today - he hasn't played in a couple of games, but he started, and he looked so fit tonight. So, I think it shows how hard we're training, and we’ve just got to keep going and keep pushing."
Today’s result ensures City will finish 2025 at the top of Sky Bet League One, however Chris spoke about the squad's continued focused on the task at hand, starting with our next clash away at Wycombe Wanderers.
“We’re happy to be top of the table but it’s still a long season.” he continued. “We would be naïve to just sit back and rest on that; there’s still another half of the season to play and so many points to play for. We have to keep our feet on the ground, keep pushing and working hard.
“We’re playing some good football, with some confidence and swagger. Brian from the start of the season has said that’s what he wanted to implement and you’re starting to see the fruits of our labour now.
"A lot of players are growing in confidence, our young players are thriving and enjoying their football and that’s one of the most important things in football, not just winning but enjoying it as well and all of our players are enjoying it now, so let it continue.”
