Stockport County reaction | Brian Barry-Murphy

Brian Barry-Murphy
Cardiff City Head Coach Brian Barry-Murphy spoke to the press after the Bluebirds’ 1-1 draw against Stockport County.

Brian spoke about the injury sustained by Yousef Salech, and gave an update on his condition.

“Yousef’s in hospital, just awaiting a scan on his neck as a precaution. It wasn’t a nice viewing, but we’re very hopeful.

“We’re very lucky with the level of care and attention he got in that moment, which was brilliant. I felt relatively confident that he would be okay, and once we’d left the pitch, the messages at half time were relatively positive.”

City went behind when Kyle Wootton struck in the 10th minute, but hit back through Joel Colwill later in the half.

“The way we played and grew into the game and coped without Yousef, I was very proud of the players and really enjoyed the personality and the effort they put in.” Brian continued.

“All the players are very close to each other, so it’s very difficult to compose yourself and focus on the game. Considering the circumstances that the players faced, I was over the moon.

“We had a really clear game plan on how we wanted to arrive in the positions that we saw in the first game against Stockport, which we found difficult. Once we did that, the areas we wanted to attack were quite central, and Joel Colwill and Alex Robertson can do that really well.”

The draw extends City's unbeaten home run in Sky Bet League One to nine matches, and the boss was pleased by the way his players reacted to going behind.

He said: “Stockport scored, which happened out of nothing really. It was a long goal kick, and they broke and scored. Some of our play and composure in the first half was not what we can do. I thought once we settled down and started to play our game, the players showed how good they can be.

"In the second half, it’s a different way of playing when Yousef doesn’t play, naturally, because of how dangerous he is on crosses, but Callum [Robinson] helped us calm the game down.

“I was pretty comfortable we’d create a chance or two in the box, and we did, and we just didn’t take it, but I’m really happy with the players."
