After a long international break, City’s U18s are back to Professional Development League business this Saturday as the young Bluebirds head eastbound to face Charlton Athletic.
The encounter will be hosted at the Sparrows Lane Training Ground on Saturday, October 10th, with the game kicking off at 1:30pm.
PRE-MATCH | JOSH DONOVAN
“It’s been a great start to the season both personally and as a collective. We’ve had some really challenging fixtures both home and away but as a team, I feel we’ve gelled really well and that’s shown with some good performances and results.
“As a defensive unit as a whole, we’ve looked really sharp, so going into the Charlton game we have something to build on. To keep a clean sheet is always my aim so I’ll be looking to do that on Saturday.
“I feel, similarly to many of the other second year scholars, I’ve stepped into a bit more of a leadership role this season to be there to support the first-year scholars. The first years have all been really good too and we’ve all bonded really well as one team now.
“Charlton has always been an incredibly tough fixture. We know they will play really physically but we will look to take them on as we would in any league game and see what result we can get from it.
“There’s a really good atmosphere around the changing room at the minute, I think all of the boys are enjoying playing together and there’s a great buzz around us. I’m really excited to get back playing after the international break and get a good amount of games under our belts.”
RECENT RESULTS
Last time out, City claimed a point on the road against Plymouth Argyle as the two sides were held to a 1-1 draw.
The young Bluebirds' only goal of the game came from Gruff Evans who powered a right-footed strike into the near top corner of the Plymouth Argyle net.
However, City’s lead didn’t last long as the home side slotted a carefully placed free-kick in the net against the run of play only two minutes later to draw the game level.
The Bluebirds had chances during the contest going the way of Taona Nyakuhwa and Keano Conaty. City continued to assert dominance over the home side as further chances went the way of James Eley and Ellis Yorke only for the game to end level.
