Match Centre
City's U18s made an impressive return to action following the international fixtures, claiming a 4-1 win at Coventry City.

MATCH SUMMARY

The young Bluebirds recorded a fourth consecutive PDL victory, netting four goals against the Sky Blues.

With the score locked at 1-1 at the interval, Tom Hutton's side required a strong second half performance to claim all three points.

That is exactly what they produced, with three goals coming after the break to see City record another win in the PDL.

Next up for City is an away clash with QPR on September 27th.

Pre-Match | Tom Hutton and Noah Williams

Before the weekend's fixture, Tom Hutton shared what he expects from the Sky Blues, following a return from the international break for many of the young Bluebirds.

"First and foremost, we’ve been keeping an eye on the boys and how they’ve been doing in their respective age groups on international call-ups," he began. "We’ve been really proud of what they’ve achieved. A lot of the boys have had different exposure to different oppositions, a lot of travelling and exposure to some positive moments.

"Off the back of the window we were working with a smaller group because the U18s were still in Japan. The training standard has been really high, we’ve been working with a smaller group but that’s allowed us to get real good individual detail, work on a little bit of unit stuff. For the lads that have been here, their application, their work effort and their training standards over the last couple of weeks has been spot on.

"It’s been three weeks since we last played, but that’s us as a Cardiff City group. But it’s not like the boys haven’t been playing, a lot of them have been out experiencing international football.

"They’ve been able to maintain that sharpness, so they should be ready to go on Saturday. But that’s a challenge we’re looking forward to, there’s nothing like playing the games at the end of the week and that’s what you look forward to as a player perspective.

"But also as a coach as well because that’s where you can get a true measure of how much the group is improving, but also how much individuals are improving as well. We’re looking forward to it and hopefully can be in a position where we take off where we left."

One player returning from international duties in Japan is Noah Williams. The defender added:

"I thought the camp was great. There was a good feel about the camp, and we had a good group where there felt like a lot of togetherness around the group.

"We had good results, and it was a great experience being so far away from home.

"We’re all buzzing to play the game on Saturday. All the players have been working hard for this game. We’re all really excited.

"Every game’s a battle in its own way and we’ve got to play our own game, and it reflects in the league.

"Every second year scholar feels that responsibility to push the first years and make them work extra hard each day. They’ve come in and been great. All the first years have started really well and fitted in really well. That reflects on our performances this season."

RECENT RESULTS

The young Bluebirds head into this fixture having picked up three wins on the bounce in the PDL.

After victories over Hull City and Barnsley, Hutton’s side entered the international fixtures off the back of a 3-1 win away against Fleetwood Town. Mannie Barton bagged a brace, while Jack Sykes was also on target, as the Bluebirds brought all three points back to South Wales.

After four league games, City currently sit seventh in the PDL South. However, they are only two points behind top of the table Charlton Athletic, and they have a game in hand on every team above them.
