City's U21s returned to action with a defeat at Brentford on Easter Monday.
MATCH SUMMARY
The Bees were clinical throughout the contest and took the lead through Ethan Laidlaw, who was played in by Michel Boni and fires home.
Boni then turned from provider to goalscorer as he tapped home from Joseph Wheeler-Henry's cross.
After the break, Boni grabbed his second by finishing a rebound from Beau Redknapp's shot.
Conor McManus secured victory for the hosts, with City next in action on Friday afternoon, taking on Sheffield Wednesday.
PRE-MATCH | CHARLIE O’BRIEN
Ahead of the contest, defender Charlie O’Brien said: “The break has been a good opportunity to focus on ourselves. It’s given us extra time to work on individual bits and bits as a group that we felt we needed to work on. It’s been a good opportunity to get a little bit of rest and refocus ourselves ahead of the last four games of the season.
“Brentford are always a good side. When we played them earlier this year, it probably wasn't a real test because they had their keeper sent off early on. It’ll be a different game on Monday. They like to keep the ball as we do, so I think it’ll be a good game, and it’s a good opportunity for us to go and hopefully get three points again.
“Unbeaten in our last four. It’s a very good opportunity for us, especially with only four games left to finish unbeaten. It will give us the opportunity to hopefully look forward to the playoffs, which is a big goal of ours.
“It was really positive for me to get another goal from a set piece in the last game. I’ve just returned from an injury in the new year. I struggled with a bad hamstring injury, so thankfully, I’m back now.
"I was buzzing to get back out there, and the last few weeks we’ve put together some good performances, and thankfully, I was rewarded with a goal. I’ve just been enjoying my football recently, and hopefully, I can pick up another goal or two before the end of the season.”
LAST TIME OUT
The young Bluebirds made it four unbeaten last time out, as they came from behind to beat Fleetwood Town 2-1.
Despite dominating early on, City found themselves behind when Noah Sawkins' headed finish gave Fleetwood the lead. The young Bluebirds then continued their dominance and found an equaliser through Alyas Debono, who headed home Cody Twose’s corner with 25 minutes played.
City started the second half fast and had two opportunities to take the lead. First through Josh Beecher, who forced a diving save from Alexander McLachlan. Followed by a goal-line save from the keeper to deny Jack Sykes. With 66 minutes played, the Bluebirds took the lead when substitute Matty Apter’s corner was met by Charlie O’Brien, who nodded the ball into the back of the net.
