PRE-MATCH | JAKE DENNIS

"It’s been a good opportunity for the lads who did not go away on international break to get some good training in and also to have a bit of rest and recovery after a demanding start to the season. We feel well prepared going into Friday’s game against Leicester.

“It’s been a really good start to the Premier League Cup competition for us, but we’re not relying on those two wins to see us through. We know we’ve got to kick on and go again.

“The 6-0 result against Peterborough definitely builds confidence. We had some really good performances before then, but maybe things hadn’t quite clicked for us going forward. However, against Peterborough we showed that we can score goals against any team.

“We expect Leicester to be a good technical side, as a lot of Category One teams are. They’ll want to dominate the ball, but against any team, we back ourselves, Category One or Category Two. If we focus on ourselves and get our own performances right, then we know we can be up there against any team in the country.”

LAST TIME OUT

The Bluebirds signed off for the extended international break with a commanding 6-0 home victory over Peterborough United.

City led 1-0 at the break in Leckwith, with Troy Perrett landing his sixth goal of the season.

After the interval, the goals began to flow. Winger Jake Davies continued his impressive form, sending a thunderous strike into the roof of the net for the second of the evening.

Captain Charlie O’Brien netted a third from an Isaac Davies set-piece, before substitute Herbie James added a fourth just three minutes after his introduction.

Thierry Katsukunya was on hand to tap home a fifth goal from close-range, before Hayden Allmark’s impressive effort from just outside the 18-yard box found the bottom-right corner late on to wrap up a five-star second-half display and secure a convincing victory for City.

That result made it five games unbeaten in all competitions.
