U21 | Huddersfield Town 2-2 Cardiff City

Match Centre
City's U21s claimed a point away from home on Tuesday afternoon following a 2-2 draw against Huddersfield Town.

MATCH SUMMARY

The young Bluebirds fell behind with five minutes on the clock, but showed great character to find a response just three minutes later. Jake Davies continued his fine form for the U21s side and got on the scoresheet once again to draw City level.

Halfway through the first period, the hosts got themselves back in front, forcing the Bluebirds to come from behind once more. Much like after the Terriers' first goal, City reacted well and found another equaliser three minutes after the interval, with Will Spiers finding the net.

Despite both sides' efforts to find a winner, the points were shared at the Accu Stadium.

Darren Purse
PRE-MATCH | DARREN PURSE

Ahead of the fixture, Darren Purse said: "It's been a positive start for us. The boys are playing up with the First Team and doing well, which is a massive positive for everyone across the Academy. On the pitch, there are some real positives.

"Apart from the result against Wigan Athletic, where the players weren't quite at the races and didn't produce what they should do, in every other game they have produced some great performances and have earned the results to back that up.

"This is Huddersfield Town's first year as a Catergory Two Academy and they've recently restarted. They're improving every week, as you do with young players. For them, it's been a process to get a squad together and they'll continue to get better.

"For us, hopefully we can produce a performance like we did against Peterborough United and come out with a positive result."

Charlie O'Brien
PRE-MATCH | CHARLIE O'BRIEN

Defender Charlie O'Brien, who has settled in well to life at City, added: "I've been really happy here. I've taken to the Club really quickly and I love living here. The football side of things, there's a great group of lads with our U21s and they've made it easy for me. So far this season, we've had some good results and one poor one, but I've been pleased with our performances.

"The break gave me a chance to go back home and see the family, which was nice, but I did miss training. I'm happy to get back in and get into the routine of things, but it was nice to have some time off to reset the mind.

"We can't read into Huddersfield Town's results. They're going to be a good side, like every team in this league are. It will be a tough game, especially being away from home, but if we put in the level of performance that we're capable of, I think we can compete well.

"There's definitely a buzz around the place at the moment with the amount of young lads around the First Team. They're doing so well and hopefully there will be even more opportunities."

RECENT RESULTS

The Bluebirds head into the fixture having won two, drawn one and lost one of the opening four matches of the season.

After a narrow 2-1 defeat to Wigan Athletic to end August, City bounced back brilliantly with a 4-1 win at Peterborough United.

Having gone behind early on in the first half, City were level at the break, going on to secure victory with three further goals after the interval. Jake Davies netted a brace, while Cody Twose and Troy Perrett scored a goal apiece.

Fielding a young starting lineup including a number of regular U18 players, the victory was City's second away win of the season in the PDL, continuing a perfect record on the road after August's 3-0 victory over Crewe Alexandra.
