MATCH SUMMARY

Looking to get back to winning ways, City started the game brightly and were rewarded for doing so, taking the lead with eight minutes on the clock.

The young Bluebirds won the ball back and that led to Dan Ola having an opportunity to net the first goal, which he took clinically.

The hosts looked to get back level and went close through Ra'ees Bangura-Williams, who struck the crossbar with a free-kick.

With 77 minutes on the clock, Elias Mansor had a chance for the Lions, but Danny Higgs was on-hand to produce a brilliant save.

Next up for City is a home clash against Charlton Athletic on March 10th.

LAST TIME OUT

City’s U21 side were defeated 1-0 by Swansea City on Friday night.

On a rainy night at Leckwith, the Bluebirds had the first chance of the game when Mannie Barton’s low-driven strike forced a diving save out of Joseph Collins in the Swansea goal. With 16 minutes played, the deadlock was broken as the visitors took the lead. Josh Pescatore’s effort found the far corner, beating Danny Higgs. City almost hit back through Rob Tankiewicz as he unleashed a curling effort, which flew just past the post.

With conditions worsening in the second half, neither side could take control of the game. The first chance fell to Swansea’s Morgan Bates, who fired over from close range. City then thought they should have had a penalty when Jake Davies appeared to have been shoved over in the box. However, appeals were waved away, much to the disbelief of Davies. The visitors almost made it two late on as Higgs denied Pescatore, and the rebounding ball fell to Thomas Woodward, who missed the target.
