PRE-MATCH | DARREN PURSE

Ahead of the contest, U21s coach Darren Purse said: “We owe them one from the game a couple of weeks ago. We need to have some intensity about us, which we didn’t have in the last game. That little bit of quality on the turnover of the ball needs to be better. We’ve got a lot to work on, a lot to digest from the previous game.

“We’ve got to put right what was wrong in the previous game because we weren’t near where our levels should be. If we can get to the levels we can, that we know can produce, we should give a good account of ourselves.”

Mannie Barton
PRE-MATCH | MANNIE BARTON

Ahead of the contest, attacker Mannie Barton said: “I don’t think there’s a game that could motivate us more. It’s a South Wales derby.

"Playing with Wales, I know a lot of the boys there, and they know our strengths, and we know theirs. I know if we play our strongest game, we’ll counteract them.”

Jack Kingdon
LAST TIME OUT

The young Bluebirds took all three points from an entertaining contest in the Welsh capital on Tuesday afternoon, thanks to Mannie Barton's second-half strike.

From a match that saw only one goal, City proved the victors with a professional performance that saw their match management tested once they'd taken their lead. A solid defensive display from the backline - led by captain Jack Kingdon - proved the difference on several occasions as the Addicks upped the pressure towards the latter end of the match.

Having gone in at the break with the score goalless, Barton's goal came from an effective City attack, ending with the forward dribbling into the area from the right before striking home, with slight assistance from a deflected shot sending 'keeper George Hardy the wrong way.
