PRE-MATCH | MATTHEW BLOXHAM

"We know that if we execute our gameplan and principles, we will give anyone a competitive game.

"It’s important that we strive to be consistent and relentless both with and without the ball, recognising how we can try and dominate in our style.

"Wigan always cause problems with how aggressive they are with the ball. We need to match their intensity in how aggressively they threaten our backline.

"Out of possession, they will want to press us but we need to recognise how we can be positive with the ball to create goalscoring moments."

Herbie James
PRE-MATCH | HERBIE JAMES

"We're looking to bounce back straight away. You can't look back too much on last week. Some of the results we had in pre-season and last week didn't reflect what we're capable of.

"The most important thing with our squad is to go out there and perform because we're capable of winning games. It's about holding ourselves accountable to those standards.

"As long as we focus on ourselves, we know that we can compete with anyone. It's always about the team and the result.

"For me as a player, my focus is to do my role to the best of my ability to help the team. I want to score and assist more but that will come as long as I'm getting in the right areas."

RECENT RESULTS

Our U21s' season began with a Premier League Cup fixture against AFC Bournemouth, in which the Bluebirds produced an impressive performance.

Goals from Jack Sykes and Rob Tankiewicz, along with Troy Perrett's brace saw City claim a 4-1 victory.

The opening game of the league season ended in defeat however, as the side fell to a 2-1 loss at home to Barnsley, with Perrett on the scoresheet.
