Watford reaction | Brian Barry-Murphy

Brian Barry-Murphy
Brian Barry-Murphy spoke to the press after the Bluebirds emphatically defeated Watford 5-1 at CCS on Tuesday night.

"We're very pleased." the boss began. "It was a difficult weekend for us; because there's such a long build-up during the international break, we wanted to play well and win on Saturday but it wasn't to be. To bounce back in the fashion that we did tonight was hugely satisfying.

"We're very keen to focus on our home form, how good we have been here. The pitch was perfect for us tonight, the stadium felt as if it had great energy in it from the start, and we wanted to give the supporters something to really get behind.

"Nathan [Trott] made a good save early on which was important for us, but from that moment on we played with great style, very aggressive and took the chances that we created tonight, which hasn't always been the case this season but it gave us a great chance to win the game."

Jack Moylan scored twice in the first half, playing in a more central attacking role, which Brian commented on.

"We just thought he was the best person for that, really. Despite the end scoreline, we knew how dangerous Watford were, they're full of high-quality players. We felt as if we could arrive in certain areas, and Jack was fundamental to that idea.

"He's scored in different positions. We're always trying to find what we think is the best solution for each game. Tonight worked quite well. One of the big reasons we brought him to the Club was how adaptable he is to different situations. I saw him play centre forward in some key games in Ireland, and he has certain qualities there that can be very useful for us.

"He can improve a lot, and he will do because he has the mentality to do it. He's a very exciting player to watch because of how attack-minded he is, and we don't want to take away any of that while obviously adding to the parts of his game that he needs to improve."

Dylan Lawlor was withdrawn midway through the first half with a hamstring injury, replaced by Will Fish, and Brian spoke about the two defenders.

"Dylan is going to go for a scan tomorrow, so we'll find out the extent of the injury then. We'll just see how he is, and then make an assessment from there.

"Will is a little bit behind Dylan in terms of how much training he's done, so I wasn't sure getting him on early was the best idea. But, he had a great impact on the game and showed his outstanding qualities.

"Rubin [Colwill] and Yousef [Salech] trained well this morning, but not close for tonight. We'll have to see how they are on Thursday with a view to Saturday."
