Cardiff City played Chelsea in the Carabao Cup on 16th December 2025. During that match, a group of attendees engaged in abusive, offensive, homophobic, discriminatory chanting towards Chelsea supporters.
As a result, Cardiff City was charged by the Football Association and found guilty of misconduct under the FA Rules. The Club has been warned as to its future conduct and has had an FA Action Plan imposed upon it, together with a fine of £15,000 to prevent any recurrence of the misconduct.
The Club utterly condemns the chanting that led to the charge and reaffirms that we have a zero-tolerance policy towards discriminatory abuse of all kinds. As a result, the Club is launching its ‘We Won’t Stand for It’ campaign today, ahead of the new League season.
Those responsible for the chanting were potentially committing a criminal offence. Anyone involved who can be identified will be banned from attending Cardiff City matches.
Notwithstanding that we once again achieved bronze compliance in the EFL Equality Code of Practice, the Club intends to further develop existing initiatives to make it more inclusive and more proactive in the prevention and detection of any potential discriminatory or inappropriate words or behaviour in the future, at home and away fixtures.
