Cardiff City captain Calum Chambers spoke to the press after the Bluebirds’ 1-0 win over Wigan Athletic.
It was Chambers’ stunning strike from distance that sealed the win in the first half for City.
“It’s like a little party trick of mine; it comes out every now and then,” Calum began. “Someone told me after the game it was exactly a year ago since I scored that goal against Middlesbrough as well.
“It’s something I like to do. I’ve popped up every now and again with a goal like that, but I’m pleased to be able to help the team in any way I can.
“I do enjoy getting forward in that part of the game. I started, as a kid, as a right winger, so I do think I have that attacking instinct in a way. It's just nice to help the team and again, and clean sheet is probably more important for me, so I'm happy about that.”
Victory over the Latics means City are on a four-game unbeaten run, which keeps them top of Sky Bet League One.
“It’s always tricky when the score is 1-0,” Calum continued. “You have to be switched on as an entire team for the whole game. One moment for them can change the game, so you do have to be careful in those moments, and I thought we did that today.
“We created so many chances to score more goals, and on another day, they go in. It is a really positive thing that we can get in the area and that we can create those chances, but to see out the other side of the game, for me, is more important. It shows where we’re at, and that’s really pleasing.”
The skipper ended by reflecting on the season so far and thanked the fans for their support both home and away.
“I’m really enjoying this season,” Calum ended. “Last season was tough, but the turnaround from the boys and the mentality that we have in the squad now is a credit to everyone, the manager especially. To be able to hit the ground running like we did and implement that shift in mindset is a huge credit to him, and it’s a credit to the boys for buying into it so quickly.
“To play in front of the crowd we have here, and the away following that we have too, is just amazing. It’s a really enjoyable place to play football.”
