Rubin Colwill, Joel Colwill and Will Fish spoke to ITV Sport after the Bluebirds’ 2-1 win over Wrexham last night.
Defender Fish scored the winning goal at Stok Cae Ras, his very first for the club.
“When I saw the ball come over the top my eyes just lit up,” Will began. “It’s a great feeling to score my first goal for the club, especially in a game like this. To get the winner means the world so I’m really happy.
“We knew the magnitude of this game with Wrexham and everything they’ve done in recent years. We gave everything, and it’s a massive credit to the boys and all the staff, because we’ve worked really hard for this one.”
Both Colwill brothers put in fine performances in North Wales, and both are eager to carry this momentum through into the rest of the season.
“It’s a great night for the club,” said Joel. “I thought we pressed really well, we had some good moments in the game, and overall, it was a good performance.
“I thought we’ve had some really good games this year. This is one of the good ones for sure. As long as we keep doing what we do in training every day and we bring that into our games in terms of being intense with our press, the results will keep coming.”
“We showed a lot of character,” Rubin added. “We’ve changed the way we’re playing, it’s a different style, and sometimes it can feel unnerving. We’re taking more time on the ball, we’re moving more than we did before, and sometimes you can feel a bit nervous.
“It’s a credit to the lads. We’ve a few brilliant results in the last few weeks, and there’s only going to be more to come from us.”
The last time City reached this stage of the Carabao Cup, Rubin and Joel watched the run to the final from the stands.
To now be playing in the last eight of the competition is a surreal moment for the brothers.
“It’s all so special for us,” Rubin concluded. “We’ve both grown up as lifelong Cardiff City fans, and we’re living the dream. I can’t believe I get to share this moment with my brother, because it makes everything even more special. I can’t believe it really.”
