WHY DONATE? l ALL SKILLED UP l FOUNDATION DAY

Community

Your contributions can make a real difference...

As has been the case for the past four seasons, Cardiff City staff and players have generously pledged their own financial support to Foundation Day.

This year, that support will specifically go to Cardiff City FC Foundation’s ‘All Skilled Up’ Literacy project, which aims to engage Key Stage 2 children across South Wales through the use of sport so as improve their reading, writing and verbal communication skills.

The project is delivered through 90 minute sessions over the course of six weeks. The first 45 minutes of a session is dedicated to a literacy activity relating to sport, such as writing a match report, while the second half gets the pupils involved with some physical activity.

Recent national reading and numeracy test results have shown that 13.5% of Year 5 boys and 12.9% of Year 5 girls in Wales are below the national average for reading test scores. This demonstrates the importance of projects such as ‘All Skilled Up’.

Through community visits and engagement, a number of the Cardiff City FC players have witnessed first-hand how football can act as a learning too. It is their involvement, and of course generous donations, that will help to inspire and support the next generation to improve their literacy skills through the power of sport.
