Cardiff City FC Women are delighted to announce the signing of forward Zoe Atkins.
The 26-year-old becomes our most experienced squad member and has international experience with Wales at Senior, U19 and U17 level.
Zoe has been recovering from ankle ligament surgery since June. She has been training with the Bluebirds from pre-season and is now ready for match action.
“I’m very excited to get started and can’t wait to get on the pitch,” began Zoe. “I’ve had an ankle injury since June, so I’ve been out for around seven months and it’s been a slow and frustrating process, but I feel ready to make an impact here.
“We’ve got a young squad and as one of the older girls - I bring experience. Obviously, the girls are looking to finish as high as possible in the league and do well in the cups, so I want to help them achieve that.
”There is plenty of energy in this squad and with the combination of that and team spirit – I believe we can be successful.”
City manager Joel Hutton added: “Zoe’s a player that we’ve been trying to get for a couple of seasons and we’re lucky to have her. Now she’s fit, ready for selection and a great addition to the team.
“She joined us in pre-season and had ankle ligament surgery, but her recovery rate has been brilliant and that’s down to the work that she’s done with Richie Hughes and our physio Mairéad Haswell.
“Zoe’s come onboard, bought into what we want to do and listened to us in the summer about our objectives as a team. She aimed to be involved towards the tail end of the season, but it’s come sooner than we thought, and it offers a good injection into our squad.
“We bring players into the squad to keep everybody on their toes and we told the girls that we want them to be looking over their shoulder, knowing that somebody else will come in if they’re not performing. That helps to keep us on track to where we want to be.”
