A fast turnover in possession resulted in City attacking quickly, forcing the visitors to act fast. Colwill quickly got a free-kick and Joe Ralls had a go at the goal from just outside the box shortly afterwards. Perry Ng took a shot at goal in the following minutes, but he was unable to give the hosts an early lead.

Breaking the deadlock in the 18th minute, Morgan Whittaker put the ball in the back of the net from Ben Waine's cross. Trying a fast response Etete had a go at the goal after a clear run but put the ball slightly over.

Before the half was out, Matt Butcher made an awkward back pass which resulted in an own goal following miscommunication from Conor Hazard, with both sides going in level.

The home side attempted to secure a stronger lead in the following passages of play; a promising corner called for a great save from Hazard, while Mark McGuinness' effort went just wide moments later.

The visitors levelled with Whittaker again the scorer, as he capitalised on a loose ball that had rebounded from a terrific Alnwick save.
