The Bluebirds had a goal disallowed in the opening period, before Tyler Walker's second-half finish settled the match on Wednesday evening.

It was the home side who first threatened to take the lead with two early opportunities for Jordan Shipley.

First the midfielder fired a volley over from a tight angle, before he was denied one-on-one by Alex Smithies just minutes later.

Ryan Giles was next to go close, as his effort was deflected onto the roof of the net by Sean Morrison.

As the Bluebirds began to get their foot on the ball, their possession led to more opportunities.

A set-piece routine almost came off as Harry Wilson's corner was flicked on by Marlon Pack, but didn't quite find the head of the onrushing Kieffer Moore.

While Joe Ralls saw two efforts on goal drag wide of the target, the Bluebirds were desperately unlucky not to go into the break with the advantage.

The Sky Blues failed to deal with a dangerous delivery into the box and when two Coventry defenders collided, the ball deflected into the net only for the referee to disallow the goal.

After the interval, the Bluebirds had Smithies to thank for a fine save from Gustavo Hamer's powerful header.

But City found themselves behind ten minutes into the second half as Tyler Walker pounced on a defensive error to slot the ball home.

The Sky Blues forward almost had another just a minute later, but fired his effort wide of the post.

Harris made a double substitution on the hour mark, introducing Sheyi Ojo and Robert Glatzel as the Bluebirds looked for a leveller.

Another Wilson corner saw them come close as Moore's downward header at the back post was kept out by Marko Maroši.

But the Bluebirds were unable to find a way back into the match as they came away from St Andrew's with a defeat.
