The hosts had the first opportunity through Conor Hourihane's early free-kick, with Dillon Phillips getting down well to help it around the post.

However, within ten minutes, it was the Bluebirds who drew first blood at the Liberty.

After Will Vaulks' long throw, Freddie Woodman made a fine save from Marlon Pack's close-range effort, but Flint was on hand to bullet a powerful header into the back of the Swansea net.

The Bluebirds began to dominate the early exchanges, with Flint heading off target from another Vaulks long throw, before Leandro Bacuna stung Woodman's palms with a fine left-footed effort.

While the hosts were limited to long-range efforts from Jay Fulton and Matt Grimes, Bacuna came inches from connecting with Kieffer Moore's cross, before City had a gilt-edged opportunity to double their advantage.

Ahead of the interval, Moore raced onto a mistake at the back to round Woodman, but Ryan Bennett got back to clear the Welsh international's goal-bound effort.

With City protecting a slender lead into the second half, Phillips saved Morgan Whittaker's effort shortly after the restart.

The home side racked up possession and began to create more opportunities, with André Ayew next to go close from a Swansea free-kick.

The Bluebirds nearly countered to perfection after the hour mark, as Moore and Harry Wilson combined before the winger cut inside and saw his effort tipped away.

With City's backs to the wall, Ayew headed against the foot of Phillips' post, before Sean Morrison and Ciaron Brown both produced superb blocks from Whittaker and Jamal Lowe.

Another fine stop from Phillips and last-ditch defending saw City maintain their clean sheet and the full-time whistle sparked scenes of celebration as the Bluebirds battled to a significant win over their South Wales rivals.
